Marriage Week 3
November 27 - December 3
This past week was the first week we were home and had a “normal” week - no coca loco’s on the beach for us sadly! Though we weren’t celebrating our honeymoon, we did have a lot of other things to celebrate like Kamil’s birthday!! Here is a recap of our third week of marriage.
Our First DIY Project
We had our first little DIY project together - a Christmas wreath for our front door! We picked up a wreath and some extra little decorations and flowers and made our own wreath. Love the holiday season!
Early Birthday Celebrations
Since the whole family was together for Thanksgiving on Thursday, we did a little early birthday celebration for Kamil on Friday. After a family dinner Mom had his favorite dessert – tiramisu – and Zoe definitely wanted some of the action hehe. We finished off the evening with a bonfire and bourbon cocktails!
Kamil’s Bar Cart Project
One of the things I love about Kamil is how willing he is to tackle a project and be crafty and Mr. Fix It! His latest project is a bar cart. He purchased this cart a while ago for some additional storage but as we’ve gotten married and moved in we needed more space for our wine glasses and accessories. We went to The Container Store and purchased a hanging wine rack and then Mr. Handy Man turned the rolling island into a mobile bar cart. It turned out perfect and is the perfect accessory to our living space. Great job hunny!
Church + Coffee date + Christmas decorations
One of the things I really looked forward to the most was going to church as husband and wife – it was even in my wedding vows. I always loved looking around at church and seeing couples holding hands or the husbands arm protectively and loving draped around his wife’s shoulder. I suppose part of it is a reflection of my own childhood watching my parents relationship and their time in church too! Well this past Sunday was the FIRST time we went to church as a married couple (we were in Charleston or the Dominican Republic the last few weekends)! I am so thankful for Kamil and his willingness and commitment to submit ourselves, himself, and our relationship before God. It was surreal to finally be there, together, married.
Following church we went over to the coffee shop we stumbled across during our time apartment hunting, Fount Coffee, and enjoyed time together reflecting on the last few weeks while sipping coffee.
The afternoon was spent listening to Christmas music and decorating our first place together for Christmas! Kamil put together the tree and we unwrapped all my ornaments which was a fun journey of some of the memorable moments and trips throughout my life; it was special to walk him through those special moments. I love how our place has turned into a warm, cozy, and vibrant home!
Williams-Sonoma + Crate and Barrel Shopping
We were super fortunate to have some very supportive friends and family who loved on us during this wedding season through couples showers, bridal showers, and of course our intimate wedding! We’ve been holding onto the gift cards and money we received to do a little shopping after the wedding and on Monday we popped over to Williams-Sonoma and Crate & Barrel to purchase some of the items we still needed to complete our home … er… kitchen! It was amazing to go shopping with my hubby and get to pick out the other items we’ve been eyeing. I can’t WAIT to use our Vitamix blender and knives in the coming days! We took our toaster out for it’s maiden voyage though and made peanut butter toast for a snack because we were so excited :)
Kamil’s 33rd Birthday
Wednesday December 2nd was an extra special day because…drum roll… it was Kamil’s birthday!! My husband’s birthday (first time I get to say that)! I am going to brag on him a little bit here. Kamil has been such a comforting and loving support during this last year. Obviously we have had the highest of high moments this year from getting engaged on January 1 to married on November 13, but I’ve had some pretty low lows in between. Kamil has been a listening ear when I’m upset, a hug when I’m in tears, and an encourager when I feel down. I remember when things really took a turn and we realized that our wedding probably wasn’t going to happen and I was so upset, he drove an hour each way just to give me a hug and a kiss. That’s the kind of man he is: thoughtful, compassionate, loving and adoring. So for his birthday I wanted to make sure HE felt loved and special. While yesterday I was able to pull off a special birthday party dinner with his closest friends, this year I knew all he wanted was a banging steak and a fantastic whiskey cocktail, so that’s what the birthday boy got! I made a reservation for us at the Oak House Steakhouse in downtown Raleigh and we enjoyed a fantastic steak, roasted brussel sprouts, garlic aioli matchstick fries, a birthday dessert and of course… a few old fashioned cocktails (which I even approved, and that’s not my usual cocktail). It was a lovely meal and we left so stuffed! Once we got home he opened a few gifts that I got him including matching Christmas pajamas which I was SO excited to give him. It’s our first set of matching jammies!
Love,
